Joy as Irish make the MCG
The Irish Warriors have made it to the International Cup final after a convincing 5.16 46 to 2.1 13 win over the New Zealand Hawks at Ransford Oval, Royal Park, Melbourne this afternoon. It was a dominate display for the Warriors getting 21 scoring shots to New Zealand’s 3 in a win the was revenge for defeat at the same stage in the 2008 tournament.
It was a warm sunny day in Melbourne with a steady downfield wind in near perfect footy conditions. The Warriors accepted the challenge of the Haka and played with great effort, pressurising the Kiwis at all times. It was a fabulous win and now sets up a final against Papua New Guinea who also had a convincing win against the USA Revos.
At the same time as the men’s game the Irish women the Banshees had another great win, this time over the USA Freedom team. Final score 5.5 35 to 2.4 16. They now play the final against Canada on Friday afternoon on Ransford Oval. The men play their final at the MCG on Saturday morning before the AFL game between Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs.
