There was sad news in the International Cup community this week when news broke that the Papua New Guinea manager was murdered last weekend. It was just before he was about to depart for the tournament when he was stabbed after a final team fundraiser in PNG. This is an awful tragedy for the team, may he rest in peace.
I’m slowly getting over the fatigue of the trip out although on Tuesday I fell asleep mid afternoon and didn’t rise again until well after dark. But the sleep was good as I was feeling very tired. However now I’m sleeping beter and am feeling much better. I’ve brought a sole skate with me on this trip, it’s like a skateboard only smaller so it fits in a rucksack. It’s a fun way to get around the city and it feels like snowboarding without the expense of going to the mountains. Some of the Warriors had a little go on it earlier in the week although I might keep it away from them for fear of injury.
The team trained on Wednesday at the University of New South Wales. It was great to be out in the sunshine and meet up with most of the aussie based players. We’ve also got shiny new balls and they felt great to kick. After training we went to Coogee beach for a swim. There were some navigational difficulties finding the bus to the beach and there was nearly a mutiny in the camp but eventually we got there. Only a few days to go now to the first matches, should be great.
